Best of the Best – The Latest Technologies You Must Know About!
(Great Keynote Presentation)
John delivers a presentation that picks the best of the best technologies and
concepts from the topics listed below called Educating our 21ST Century
Media Snackers: A Pathway to Higher Student Achievement. This
presentation provides the best overall view of current and emerging
technologies. It will challenge the audience to think digitally, and to take
proactive steps in understanding new learning environments and the tools
that comprise them. This topic is a great keynote presentation that will inspire
and motivate participants. It starts any conference off with an energized
boost.
School Leadership through Empowering Technologies
Serving as a Leader in K-12 schools in 2010 presents many unique and
daunting challenges. John is very aware and experienced in the difficulties
leaders face. In 2006, John returned to a K-12 district to serve as the Chief
Information Officer for the Eagle County School District in Vail, Colorado.
There, he successfully oversaw the complete rebuild of the district’s
technology systems funded through the passage of a $128 million dollar bond
which he helped to secure. For three years, John researched and directed the
technology components for the bond construction projects, as well as
managed all facets of technology learning in the District’s 18 schools. His
experience is current, practical and relevant to the actual status of technology,
students, and learning in America’s schools today. Learn from his
experiences how to guide your schools thru the maze of technology, student
achievement and staff development required for effective school leadership.
21ST Century Learning
Higher Achievement Even in Tough Economic Times
Even though we have advanced exponentially in the development of
technology, we still need to address how technology is applied to teaching
and learning. Presentations constructed around this topic will take you on an
interesting exploration of a number of current topics that create the vision for
the integrated use of technology in learning. Points discussed include
developing a vision for the future, an understanding for who our children are
today, and how they respond to instruction. It also includes looking at the
various curriculum frameworks developed around the 21st Century learning
theme. Our future global competitiveness and economic wellbeing, both as
individuals and as a country, depend on educators understanding our new
learning environments and how technologies enhance the learning
opportunities.
The University’s Role in using Instructional Technologies
Universities of today continue to play a critical role in developing students into
employees who can display originality, entrepreneurship, and innovation in
their chosen fields! In order to reach these ultimate goals for all students,
universities must also address the use of technology throughout their
curricula. As a retired Associate Dean at the University of Montana, John
learned firsthand of the many obstacles that higher education faces when
tackling the integration of technology into existing curricula. This presentation
will discuss many of the technology issues faced in higher education and at
the same time it offers many practical solutions for the unique challenges
faced by university professors today.
The Personal Web - Taking Your Teaching Digital!
Join John Kuglin on an expedition for discovering how the web can work for
you! What are the new tools and more importantly, how can they help you to
reach and motivate today’s millennial students. The term personal web was
coined to represent a collection of technologies that are used to configure and
manage the ways in which one views and uses the Internet. Via a growing set
of free, simple tools and applications, it is easy to create a customized,
personal web-based environment — a personal web — that clearly supports
one’s social, professional, learning, and personal activities.
The Next Generation in Computing is in the Clouds!
The “cloud” is the term used for networked computers that distribute
processing power, applications, and large systems among many machines.
Applications like Buzzword, Google, YouTube, and many others use the
“cloud” as their platform. “Cloud-based” applications do not run on a single
computer; instead they are spread over a distributed environment, using
storage space and computing resources from as many available machines as
needed. The emergence of large-scale “data farms” — large clusters of
networked servers — are bringing huge quantities of processing power and
storage capacity within easy access. Learn about inexpensive yet simple
solutions to off site storage, multi-user applications, and other exciting
applications that are being developed for delivery from the “cloud”. This new
capability opens the door to a wholly different way of thinking about
computers, software, files, and learning!!
Understanding the Infrastructure - 21st Century Learning under the Hood
In real estate, the value of a property can be determined in three words:
location, location, location! When we start discussing the importance of
technology and the resulting learning systems that are created, one must
understand the importance of these three words: infrastructure, infrastructure,
and infrastructure! To deliver state-of-the-art instruction and global access to
information in a safe yet compelling environment, a robust system must be
designed and deployed to deliver the network capabilities needed for 21st
Century learning. John will take you under the hood in a non-threatening way
to look at the infrastructure systems needed to bring 21st Century Learning to
your district.
